Using IMEs & CJK Languages (Smart Typewriter)
Firmware v1.3.39 incorporates support for Chinese (simplified, traditional), Japanese, and Korean languages. There are some unique shortcuts, hotkeys, and navigation required in order to use these languages.
This is most important for Chinese and Japanese, as they use IME, or input method editors. All CJK mappings & IMEs are a work in progress as all of our developers do not speak (or type) in CJK languages. Please write into hello@astrohaus.com with any feedback or questions.
To type in your desired language, you must first initiate IME. If you do not initiate IME prior to typing, you will continue to output English-only letters, even if you have switched to the CJK keyboard.
Gen 3 Smart Typewriters: To initiate IME, press the [`] key.
Gens 1 & 2 ISO Smart Typewriters: To initiate IME, press the [`] key.
Gens 1 & 2 ANSI Smart Typewriters: To initiate IME, press the [ยง] key.
Once the IME has been activated, then you can begin typing to bring up the candidate window. Use the below key combinations in order to navigate the candidate window.
[space]
Move candidate window selection right one character.
[shift] + [space]
Move candidate window selection left one character.
[pg up] or [pg dn]
Move candidate window page right or left, respectively.
Note: Other shortcuts or hot keys do not work while IME is initiated.
Japanese specific commands:
[shift] + [pg up] or [shift] + [pg dn]
Increase or decrease candidate window selection character length.
[new] + [pg up] or [new] + [pg dn]
Move right or left between candidate window selection phrases.
[caps]
Cycle between Kana & Kanji alphabets.
