Draft Not Syncing (Alpha)

This article will help you troubleshoot if your documents are not showing up in your Postbox account. This article is intended to be followed chronologically as a way to systematically remove possible issues. In this article, you will be instructed on how to:

  • Check if your draft has synced
  • Check your Wi-Fi connection
  • Check your login status
  • Check your Postbox connection status
  • Back up and restart your Freewrite

Note: Documents can sometimes take a few extra minutes to sync, so we recommend waiting to see if the problem resolves on its own before troubleshooting. However, if the problem persists for over 10 minutes, proceed with this list.

Step 1: Check sync status.

Your drafts are always saved locally. When things are not showing up as you expect in Postbox, check to see if your device thinks they are synced.

While viewing the document that has not yet synced to your Postbox account, hold down the space bar to bring up the heads-up display. This will tell you the last time the device synced to Postbox. Wait a few moments and see if the draft shows up in your Postbox account. If your draft is still not showing up in Postbox, please continue…

Step 2: Check Wi-Fi connection.
Hold space bar to bring up the heads-up display. Under "WiFi," you'll see a network name listed or, if you are not connected, you'll see "N/A."

If you are not connected, you must connect to a Wi-Fi network in order to sync your drafts to Postbox.

If you are connected, continue to the next step...

Step 3: Check Postbox account connection.
Check what Postbox account you are logged into on the device. Hold the power button for 3 seconds to bring up the main menu again. Press [pg dn] and select "Logout." That will bring up a prompt asking you if you would like to log out of a certain Postbox account, and it will provide the email associated with the account. Check that email address.

If it is not your Postbox account, then that is why you don't see your drafts in Postbox. They are syncing to whatever account is currently logged in. Contact us at hello@getfreewrite.com if you need more guidance.

If it is your Postbox account, make sure that is the account you are checking for your drafts. If it is, and you still do not see your drafts, then proceed to the next step...

Step 4: Disconnect and reconnect.

Go ahead and disconnect from Wi-Fi and then reconnect. (This will also log you out of your Postbox account.) First, hold the power button for three seconds to bring up the menu if you've exited it, tap [1] for Wifi, and then select [2] for Off.

Wait for confirmation that you are disconnected, and then reconnect. Pressing [1] in that same menu will allow you to reconnect.

You'll be prompted to sign into your Postbox account, as well.

Wait a few moments and check to see if your draft is visible in Postbox. If not, please continue...

Step 5: Back up and restart.
Back up your documents that are currently saved locally on your device. You can do this by plugging your device into your computer using a Freewrite USB cable.
Once backed up, restart your device by holding the power button for 12 seconds and then releasing it. (There is an LED indicator beside the USB plug that flashes rapidly while you hold the power button. The indicator will stop flashing after 12 seconds and you can then release the power button.)

Once restarted, make sure the device is connected to Wi-Fi and you are logged into your account again.

Step 6: Contact us.
